Surfer at Zicatela Beach:
One of the premier surfing destinations in North America.
Not for beginners!
I have to say that the Mexican region of Oaxaca is very beautiful and filled with fun and safe things to enjoy while on an adventure vacation. Whether you fly into Oaxaca City or near by Aculpoco Puerto Escondido is Tops on my list of places that you must visit. It is full of Expatriots and is similar to the Aculpoco of the 1970's. It is amazing and you can surf some groovey waves man! The surfing at the beach in Puerto Escondido is World Class. Zicatela which is shown in my picture is definately not for any beginners as there is a bad shore break there. The shore break is very shallow and for experts only. Away from the main breakers are some better places where beginners are welcomed. Travel in Oaxaca is safe and very cheap. You can rent a very nice air conditioned bungalo for under $300 a month from one of many local expats! The town is full of authentic mexican eateries and very affordable food. There are many Taquerias with many special hot sauces to enjoy. The nightlife is excellent with many Discoteques to dance until dawn. Beer prices are cheap and you wont be sorry. This is the place to visit if you want to see what a real mexican beach town is like without all of the tourist hotel chains. Get there and enjoy it. Stay Low Lower Down
